Mr. Ken DeFoor

Ken DeFoor
The Houston Police Retired Officers Association (HPROA) was established for only one reason—to assist retired Houston police officers. This objective has taken several directions since our inception in 1994, but it has always had the welfare of all Houston retired officers as its primary goal. The HPROA has been blessed with dedicated officers and directors and supported by the greatest members any organization ever had.

Primary to any organization is a vehicle of communication to keep its members advised of legislative efforts, the well being of fellow retirees and information specific to their concerns. The organization’s “Retired Badge” newspaper and web site are second to none in fulfilling this role as communication vehicles.

Our Family Assistance Committee works hard to support retired officers in need of medical equipment and/or assistance in time of grief. Any organization is totally dependent on its members, and our Membership Chairman works tirelessly to increase our members, which translates into voting strength in local and state elections that may affect retirees’ benefits—both for HPROA members as well as non-members. And the list goes on. Suffice to say there is no other organization that speaks for retired Houston police officers except the HPROA—a fact clearly evident to active officers upon their retirement.

Again, the efforts of the HPROA have been blessed, as our organization has accomplished every goal it has sought for the benefit of our membership. This has been accomplished by the professional conduct of our organization towards our local and state elected officials and the respect the HPROA has gendered through its dealings with many officials. This is a commitment by which the HPROA will forever be guided. We invite all retired Houston officers, including those in the DROP program, to join us in making a strong and professional organization even greater by your membership.

In closing, I want to thank the public on behalf of the HPROA for supporting our efforts when called upon and to many of our friends in the legislature for your understanding and encouragement in our efforts on a state level.

Ken DeFoor
President, HPROA
