2008 Surviving Spouses Lunch
Every year the HPROA sponsors this luncheon for our very honored guests, all Houston Police Department Surviving Spouses. The fun filled afternoon was held at The Walden Yacht Club on February 20, 2008. Please take a minute and thank our following sponsors for their kindness and generosity.
Dorothy and Don Weaver: Table Arrangements
This is the 4th year the Weaver's have donated the beautiful floral creations that graced the luncheon tables. These centerpieces, which held deep red roses, were won by 15 lucky ladies. Brookhollow Florist 11548 Northwest Freeway Houston, TX 77092
Nelson Zoch: Fallen Heroes of the Bayou City
Nelson donated a copy of his book, Fallen Heroes of the Bayou City, which depicts the lives and deaths of the 106 men and women of the Houston Police Department who made the ultimate sacrifice. Margaret Fowler took home this historical book. **
Pam and Jack Miller: $50 Gift Certificate
The Miller's are repeat givers to the luncheon. Rose Marie Goodwin was thrilled when her name was called and couldn't wait to go shopping. **
Carol and Rob LeClair: HolyBears, Inc.
The LeClair's have an appealing product to law enforcement and their company showed us tremendous considerations. Their police HolyBears was just the right, take home, keepsakes. www.holybears.com
Sergeant W.B. Johnson: HPD Honor Guard
Again, the Honor Guard performed the opening ceremonies. This dedicated group consisted of Sergeant P. Jewel, Officer G. Gilford-Conaway, Officer A. Gorham-Maki and Officer D.J. Maki. Our national anthem was beautifully sung by Melissa Saldivar, a civilian in Media Relations. Chief Harold Hurtt HPD 1200 Travis Houston, TX 77002
Jo Beth and Greg Austin: Jewelry
Jo Beth and I were classmates in Cadet Class #67. Helen Wagner and Gloria Redden were ecstatic when they each won a sterling silver cross pendant. The pearl and sterling silver bracelet will look dazzling on Ernie Sanford's wrist. **
Andrew Galayda - Stefanie and Neal Leonard: Luncheon Favors
The cute and cuddly HolyBears that were given to attendees were purchased by my dad, who came in from Kingsland, TX to attend the festivities. Neal and I really have fun trying to find the perfect keepsake and hope they are enjoyed. Louise Burke walked away with the Hero statue by Willow Tree. P.O. Box 1075 Kingsland, TX 78639
Dorothy and Jim Ashby - World Wide Travel: Name Tags & Journey of Life Earrings
The Ashby's are also repeat givers. This year the big red heart stood out on the printed name tags. The simulated diamond Journey of Life Earrings will certainly sparkle on the earlobes of Billie Sims. **
Vera and Richard Mireles: Perfume
What heavenly Givenchy scents. Shirley Wood, Margaret LaRue, and Sharon Grubbs took home Ysatis. Vernetta Walker, Vera Moore and Meredith Gunn became Very Irresistible while Cindy McGill and Janet Peyton were wrapped in Organza. The fragrance that Hattie Weirich and Irene Mouser will be wearing is Amarige. The Mireles' are gracious and generous members. **
Vickie and Steve Rayne: Quilt
The request to make a quilt out of police shirts, pants and patches became an exquisite piece of art. The vision, countless hours and devotion are definitely seen in Vickie's hand work. Sharon Felchak will be forever embraced in loving memories from this beautiful tribute. **
Morris Eickenhorst: Texas Humorist
No matter how many times Morris is our guest speaker, he makes us laugh with his jokes and stories. Always good sports and great sources of material are his wife, Linda and their teenage son. 32 Woodhollow Drive Conroe, TX 77304
Dorothy Holmes: Traveling Vase
Dorothy took our traveling art project from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Her own artistry came out in making the photo album. Her attention to detail in choosing the objects to be placed in the photos with just the right flowers in the vase was very touching. Dorothy did an outstanding job in protecting and using the vase all year long. A legacy was born and was lovingly passed on to grace the home of Joyce Hadley until the 2009 luncheon. **
Jodi Christie: Walden Yacht Club
Jodi and her staff were constantly busy and do a tremendous job keeping up with all our demands. We consumed fruit salad, chop steak w/onions and mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and chocolate pie.13301 Walden Rd. Montgomery, TX 77356

Their 3rd contribution was in loving memory of Larry Moore and Tom Grubbs. This donation is heartfelt and their generous gifts do make a difference.
