With the legislative session in Austin starting in January, it is time for the HPROA to begin the task of establishing who will be the primary contacts representing the HPROA membership. Therefore, at the November 11th. HPROA Board of Directors meeting I appointed retired Assistant Chief Jerry DeFoor (we are not related) as our current Legislative Committee Chairman. Jerry has already begun selecting his committee members to assist him and he comes to us with a good working knowledge of legislative matters as he has experience from earlier involvement in such matters. Both Jerry DeFoor and our Executive Director, Bill Elkin will work closely in the upcoming legislative session in our efforts to preserve the Houston Police Pension system as we know it now. The efforts on the part of the City of Houston Mayor’s office to pass legislation that will in effect, take over total control of our pension system, must be stopped.
With Jerry at the helm of the legislative committee and with his professional approach to people and situations he will represent the HPROA membership very well. If any member feels as though they would like to assist Jerry on his committee he welcomes your calls.
Ken DeFoor
President, HPROA
