Family Assistance Updates
January 2008

O. G. KING:  We just visited, by phone, with O.G. who was at home recovering from quadruple bypass surgery.  He advised that he was dismissed from the Houston Northwest Medical Center hospital 2 days ago after spending 9 days there after surgery.  He reports that he is improving daily, is able to get up and move around and when he get tired he lays down for a while.  He said he would welcome any phone calls at his home at 281-444-8876 so as you finish reading this, pick up that phone and give him a shout.  Let us also pray for his continued healing and recovery.

WALTER YARGO:  We received a call from Jim Hudson this evening who had earlier talked to Walter.  Walter reported that he had visited his oncologist who advised him that there was no treatment available for his pancreatic cancer and that it was likely his last office visit.  Walter asked Hudson to let all of those friends and fellow officers how much he appreciated their calls to his home.  He stated that he was only able to talk to probably a third of those that called and just was not able to return so many of them.  His sickness will not allow him to take any more calls at this point as he continues to make final preparations for he and his family. (See Previous Reports, Below)

Jim will continue to maintain contact with the family and plans to visit Walter this weekend and will pass along updates if Walter so wishes.  It is now our call to lift up our prayers on behalf of Walter and his family that his time would be painless and peaceful.

Jack Guy (1-28-08 E-mail from Linda Guy to Forrest)  I need to ask for prayers for Jack. He went to the hospital yesterday(Sunday) with 2 blood clots in his lungs (1 in each). Also he has pnuemonia, which the dr said is a problem  caused by the clots.  They are giving him some powefrful drugs to hopefully dissolve the clots, but not have them break up and maybe go to his heart or brain. However the medicine will also cause his immune system problems, and it won't be working right, so they advised him to have very few visitors since his immune system will be so low, and he would be suspectible to almost any germ that he might come in contact with.

I know he will be bored silly having to lay in the bed so long, but they said he would be weak also. He can have phone calls and I'm sure he would like to hear from anyone. Also I know he would enjoy cards, and just knowing the prayers are going up for him.  (1-30-08 - Linda to Forrest) Linda reports that Jack is feeling some better and they are giving him medicine to thin his blood and he is now off oxygen. They found out that he does not have pneumonia but the Dr said that some damage was done to the lung due to the blood clots. He was able to pass the clots  through the heart  without blocking. Jack will probable get a filter put in to keep any further clots from reaching the heart. Linda says thanks for all the prayers and she knows that prayers do work. Continue to keep Jack and Linda in your daily prayers...

His phone no. at the hospital is (903) 541-4500   room 113. He is in Mother Francis Hospital in Jacksonville. The address is: 2026 S. Jackson St.
Jacksonville, 75766

I will come home at night and pick up mail.  our address is

(This E-mail to Forrest Turbeville is from Linda Guy. Along with your prayers, drop Jack a note or card, It would really lift his spirits.)

Thanks so much.

ANDY GEFFERT:   Andy was admitted to Willowbrook Methodiist Hospital Monday after he fell at his home.  He reportedly had the flu and passed out in his townhouse.  We went to the hospital and found that they were just bringing him back to his room after having some tests run.  He is anemic and had to have six units of blood since being admitted.  They have not yet found the source of his anemia.  He is being sedated for pain in his left leg however x-rays have not revealed any broken bones however they plan on doing a MRI in the future in the event he has a hairline fracture in the leg or hip.  He appears to have beaten the flu and no longer has any fever but is on a respirator to assist his breathing. Andy is being heavily medicated and with the respirator he obviously cannot talk so visitation at this point is not recommended. He has some family attending to his needs currently.  We will continue to monitor his condition and update as info becomes available. UPDATE:  We visited with Andy about noon today and he is still being sedated due to some severe pain on his left side, the cause of which has yet to be determined.  He is scheduled to have an MRI at 3:00PM today and hopefully find out the cause and then get about repairing it.  They have removed the respirator but his throat is sore and it is difficult to understand him and cannot talk on the phone.  His son, Eric, is caring for him and will advise as to what the MRI reveals and their plan to resolve the source of his pain.  Please keep Andy in your prayers.

ELAINE FOLTZ:  Larry reports this evening that Elaine has been moved to the Sugarland Rehabilitation Hospital , 1325 Highway 6, Room 1159 and her room phone number is 281-276-7559.  She should be there about 2 weeks.  She no longer has pneumonia and is showing great improvement, walking on her own. Their next goal is to get Elaine strong enough to undergo chemo treatments for her cancer.  Hopefully, she will get go home after the two weeks there.  The hospital is a little hard to find and you  might want to call the hospital at 281-276-7574 to get direction into the facility.  Keep sending those prayers out every day for Elaine and let’s get her home and help her fight the next battle.

WALTER E. YARGO:  We received information this evening that retiree Walter Yargo has been diagnosed to have pancreatic cancer.  The medical staff has advised Walter that any type of treatment of his cancer would be to no avail at this point and that the end could come within weeks.  Walter was a graduate of HPD class #36, retired from the Burglary and Theft Divison in 1999 and just recently attended the 40 year class reunion. He is at home in the Katy area,  phone #281-578-7979 and would like to hear from his friends. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Walter and his family and we ask those who worked with him and his classmates to give him a call and lift him up.

Charlie Ford:  Member C.O."Charlie" Ford has been admitted to St. Lukes Hospital in Medical Center.  He has a collapsed left lung and his breathing is shallow.  He was admitted when he was spitting up blood and it would appear that was traced back to colon surgery that he had back in October of 07.  He is in critical condition in ICU with no visitors and no phone calls.  Remember Charlie and his family in your prayers throughout the coming days.  (Update 1-18-08) He is better today, still in ICU, cannot talk because he is intubated. Had a couple of tests today and has some scheduled for tomorrow. Info from Charlie's daughter via Buster and Karen

PAUL BEEMAN:  "Daddy Rabbit" was admitted to St. Lukes Hospital in the Med Center last Saturday evening with pneumonia in his right lung.  They are treating the pneumonia with steroids which plays havoc with is blood sugar and they are having real problems getting his insulin adjusted.  We visited with him this morning and he is steadily improving but the staff has not said anything to him about being released soon.  He is in the Cooley Tower of St Luke’s and said he would like some calls at 832-355-9665.  Take the time to give him a buzz, as we pray for his continued improvement and early release to go home.

PATTI GAMBINOWe received a note from Patti who is slowly recovering from her back surgery at home.  She expressed her thanks for the phone calls, cards and letters from all of her friends at the HPROA.  Patti is now able to get out but can only sit for 40 minute periods which limits any traveling away from the house. She had a injection in her hip the week before Christmas and is now scheduled to start therapy on Jan. 7.  She is hopeful that things will get back to normal so she and Sal can attend the Feb. meeting.  Keep those card and letters coming folks and pray that Patti continues to improve as she enters her therapy sessions.
