RETIRED OFFICERS ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE

AUGUST 14, 2008

Email message as received from A.P. SMITH (7-07-08)

Hope life is good to you Forrest Me...well I am not sure. Very weak, have no energy whatsoever, but I keep trying to do things around here as always. Don't care about eating very much. Two weeks ago had a little surgery. My prostate was swollen so much till I could not empty my bladder. The doc used the old Lazer and opened things up.

I'm not real sure that its working as it should. I need to sit down often and sometimes lose my balance some. I am down to 161 lbs now. I don't guess that I have to worry about being over weight. Take care ---A.P.

E-mail message from Fred Eichholtz VIA Deanna Thornton re: Johnny Thornton's surgery..

Dear Family & Friends,

We are home!  Johnny has done so well since the surgery (2 days ago) that they let him come home.  He is completely worn out & in bed for a nap, but doing great.... thanks to all the many prayers! For those of you who haven't heard, the surgeon said that "it did not look like cancer & the tumor popped right out since it was not imbedded in the brain."  The surgery was quick too... just an hour or so.  He has been in very little pain & sat up in a chair the entire day yesterday.

We will get the final results from pathology in 2 weeks, but the dr. feels that it was benign.  His incision was much larger than we had expected (about 8 inches long, on top of his head.  It is stapled & has very little pain). Thank you to Pastor Dick, Eddie & Kathy, and Jan for coming to the hospital, and for the phone calls of concern.  You were a great comfort and blessing to us, just to know that you were praying us through it all.. I'll keep you all posted on the final outcome, when we hear, but we feel confident and at peace.  Love to all, & singing God's praises,  Deanna

UPDATE - 7-20-08 - (e-mail from Deanna - Forrest) We just got back from Johnny's visit to the doctor & they took out the staples.  The results of the pathology test are that it was benign (Praise God!).  It was however, the type of tumor that reoccurs in the brain.  Therefore, they will check him every 3 months with another MRI & then every 6 months.  They want to keep a close watch on it, so that if any tumors do reappear on the meninges of the brain, they can resume treatment.  He also had an ultrasound today on the cyst on his thyroid.  We won't know the results of that for a week, when we return to the doctor next Friday.  Keep us in your prayers for another good report. He actually got to drive home today & was so glad to be back behind the wheel again.  He still has to stay out of the sun & on anti-seizure medication for 6 months. We love you all, and thank you for the many prayers

CHESTER MASSEY: (7-9-08 - Johnny Bonds to Nelson) Johnny visited with Chester yesterday and reports that Chester is doing good and they had a good chat. David Massey reports this morning the Chester is in good health, eating well and as long as he takes his medication properly he does fairly well with some periods of confusion.  David hopes to bring Chester to the HPROA meeting tomorrow.  Hopefully they will make it.  David and Johnny both agree that Chester would like for some his friends to stop by and visit with him. We encourage anyone who has the time to go by and share a couple of old stories with him.  Chester is a resident at the Hampton on Pinegate.  Turn south on East T.C. Jester from the North Loop, go one block and turn left on Pinegate, go one block and it will be on your right.  Continue to remember Chester in your prayers.
