50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War

The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. In order to accomplish this goal the Federal Government has partnered with local governments, private organizations, and communities across America to participate in the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War - a 13 year program to honor and give thanks to a generation of proud Americans who saw our country through one of the most challenging missions we have ever faced.

As a "Commemorative Partner" Operation Lone Star - Texans Supporting Our Troops has chosen to honor those members of the Houston Police Department who served our country in Vietnam and surrounding regions in-country, in coastal waters, or in the air. We will also honor those members who served during the Vietnam War Era, as their contributions were invaluable.

This commemoration service will be  held during the August 11, 2016 Business Meeting. Lunch will be provided by Operation Lone Star - Texans Supporting Our Troops. We will recognize our Vietnam War Veterans and will present each a Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin and an Operation Lone Star -Texans Supporting Our Troops / Vietnam Commemoration t-shirt. We will also recognize our Vietnam Era Veterans and present each an Operation Lone Star - Texans Supporting Our Troops / Vietnam Commemoration t-shirt.

As stated in the Official Proclamation: "Let us strive to live up to their example by showing our Vietnam Veterans and all who have served the fullest respect and support of a grateful nation."
