Wounded Warrior Project Reception
 May 17, 2013

Your HPROA has again participated in honoring
the wounded and injured members of our military services.
The Wounded Warrior Project again scheduled a fishing
trip for approximately 300 wounded members of our military.
They arrived at Houston Intercontinental Airport on the
morning of Friday, May 17, 2013,  put on buses and escorted
to South Texas for a weekend of fishing.
The Airport Division of HPD will provided a free breakfast for all
HPROA members who attended.
I want to thank so many of our members, who showed up to honor
our injured warriors.

The Houston Police Foundation Seeking Volunteers (Retirees, Spouses)

HPROA has received a request from HPROA member Stephanie Abernathy who asked for an article on our website asking for volunteers for the many projects and events held by the Houston Police Foundation.
As many of you know, the Police Foundation is formed by local business leaders to support Houston Police Department projects and special programs including officer safety, training, equipment, and new technology, none of which would be feasible under the City's budget.  Events are held all year long, including this coming week, with Police Week starting Monday with our Police Week Heroes Breakfast at the Hyatt Regency.
Volunteers are needed from a few hours to a full day.  Please look at the attached information from retired officer Abernathy.  Consider giving back to the Department and your community.  If our business leaders can give not only their money, but their time to our Department, let's do our part.  Certainly there is something for each of us.  There are many volunteer opportunities, from public awareness programs, to registration at events, and gift shop clerks.  Please look at their website.
We might be retired, but we are still citizens of this great city, and officers of the Houston Police Department.

Family Assistance Update
April - May, 2013
4/01/13
Jack D. Lee - (5-17-13 -Forrest) Nelson Foehner and I visited with Jack at the (The Terrace") Assisted Living residence at 14050 Cutten Road, Houston. We arrived there as the "residents" were about to have lunch. We were escorted to a large dining area to where Jack was sitting. Our "escort" then took us to a smaller dining area where it was much quieter and we were invited to have lunch with Jack (which we accepted).
In talking with Jack, it was evident that he had a problem remembering different officers that he had worked with in the Burglary and Theft Division, but did remember some. His speech was very slurred and difficut to understand.  Jacks wife Sheila passed away about a year ago here at the "Terrace"."[More]
