R. J. "DICK" MATTHIAS, JR., 69 of Spring and a native Houstonian, passed away Friday, July 26, 2002. A retired officer for Houston Police Dept. and Precinct One Constable office, Officer Matthias was a graduate of Houston Police Academy Class #35 and served over 21 years. Upon retirement from H.P.D. he served 8 years as a Constable for Harris Co. Precinct One. Mr. Matthias was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Staff Sergeant. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 44 years, Anna; daughters, Joyce Barron, Lori Pugh, Aime Hale, husband Gary; son, John Barron, Jr.; grandchildren, John, III, Jesse, James Barron, Nicholas Delaney, Cara Souheaver, Megan, Cady, Jesse Hale; sister, Jean Chookas; brother, Allen Barrilleaux; mother-in-law, Louise Wells and numerous other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, Champions. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30th in the Chapel of Brookside Funeral Home, Champions with Rev. Rick Fowlkes, officiating. Interment will follow at Houston National Veterans Cemetery with honors provided by Houston Police Department Officers. A loving husband, father and grandfather will be missed greatly by all.
