Carl Kulhanek Sr
: (3-17-12 nf)  HPROA member Sgt. Carl Kulhanek Sr. passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012.  Carl was a graduate of HPD cadet class #22 .  A native of Waller, Texas, was called Home to be with the Lord on March 16, 2012, after a courageous battle with heart disease. Carl was born on May 23, 1934 to Jerry C. Kulhanek and Mary Stankovich Kulhanek. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Maxie George Kulhanek. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Jozwiak Kulhanek; son, Carl David Kulhanek, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Linda Kulhanek; daughter, Robin Kulhanek Day and son-in-law, Stephen Day, and grandson, Tyler Day; sister, Margie Kulhanek Abel; nephews, Maxie Kulhanek, Jr.; Charles Kulhanek and his wife, Ann; Joe Kulhanek and his wife, Janice; great nephews, Christian Kulhanek, Chandler Kulhanek, and Kyle Kulhanek; great niece, Meghan Kulhanek; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He began his life on a farm, actively participating in farming for a short period. Carl graduated from Waller High School in 1951. He was active in all school sports and was particularly involved in varsity football. Following high school, he graduated from Sam Houston State University with a B.S. degree in agriculture. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, followed by six years of Reserves. In 1959, he began a 33-year career with the Houston Police Department, retiring with rank of Sergeant in 1993.

Carl was an amazing husband and father and greatly loved by his family. He loved his family dearly, and he loved his country. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

There will be visitation on Tuesday night from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Canon Funeral Home in Waller, Texas.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Canon Funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Father Ed Kucera will conduct the service, accompanied by Pastor Edd Wunderlich.

Following the service, the body will be interred in the St. Martin de Porres Catholic Cemetery near Waller. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that donations in memory of Carl be directed to the Texas Heart Institute, 6770 Bertner St., Houston, TX 77030, (832) 355-4011 or visit
