A man can show just how strong he is by lifting a phone to call a friend

Phil Tippen:(7-23-17 nf) We visited with Phil today by phone and he reports that he fell a couple of time this past week leaving him with a broken rib and a bruised back side. It is hard to find a comfortable position and to take a deep breath with the broke rib. He uses a walker but he is very unstable on his feet. Hopes to mend and free of falls. Keep your prayers coming for Phil and give him a call at 936-900-8382 & lift him up. [More]

RETIRED I.D. CHANGE

During our monthly HPROA meeting, on July 13, 2017, a question was asked regarding the HPD I.D. card issued to us. Several retirees, who had qualified during the month of June, had been issued a new  I.D. card that did not have the word “RETIRED” printed in big white letters on the front of the card. The I.D. did identify them as retired but only on the back of the I.D. in small print. When these retiree’s got the new I.D. cards they asked the officers working in the Retiree Office of the academy range about them. The officers had no explanation but said they were the correct I. D.’s for Retired Officers. I told all the HPROA members at the meeting that I would check on the change and let everyone know. I contacted the sergeant over the retiree office at the range. He informed me the new I.D.’s for retired officers no longer had the word “RETIRED” on the front of the I.D. card. The sergeant did not know why the change was made. He was just told it had been changed.

Police Pension Update
7/11/17
"A Season of Change"

It has been almost 2 weeks since the new Pension Law for Houston Police Officers (and surviving spouses) has taken effect.  The actual effect to the benefit structure has not yet surfaced to most members of HPOPS and to our members.  When negotiations began, between HPOPS and the City of Houston, last year for the compromise, the general mood and feelings were that this would be a "slam dunk" at the legislature.  It was not anticipated that many obstacles would arise and create problems leading to a finished piece of legislation.
